Chhandayan Indian Music

Chhandayan is sincerely dedicated to serve all aspects of Indian music in every possible way. With its primary mission to propagate learning, understanding and appreciation of Indian music (mainly north Indian classical), Chhandayan's activities cover almost all of the areas essential to such pursuit. Chhandayan offers classes of Indian music (vocal and instrumental) supplemented by periodic workshops, seminars and lecture- demonstrations throughout the year in Manhattan and Jackson Heights (Queens) in New York, Nutley, Edison and Kendall Park in New Jersey, Potomac in Maryland, Ashburn in Northern Virginia and Cheswick (in Pittsburgh area) in Pennsylvania.

Tabla Lessons

This long-term course caters to intermediate tabla players aiming to master this classic Hindustani instrument. Students will learn advanced tabla compositions, study various tabla gharanas and maestros, and increase their skills in rhythm and technique. Designed for those who have already learned the basics, Unmesh Banjeree customizes lessons to each student's background and progression. At the end of a year of study, students will have a deeper understanding of the tabla and Indian classical music.

The World Music Foundation

Pandit Sandip Burman a native of Durgapur, West Bengal is an internationally renowned tabla maestro. His love and dedication of tabla began at age 6 when he began learning from Shri Sudhir Roy and later he became a student of the late distinguished tabla master, Pandit Shyamal Bose of Calcutta. Sandipji's performances are marked with spontaneous innovation and tonal purity while delivering complex rhythmic patterns (tala) or melody (raga).
