Salsa Dance Classes

The term salsa refers to a variety of Latin dances with origins in Cuba and Puerto Rico, with regional differences both here and in the Latin American region creating a host of different salsa “flavors.” The mambo, rumba, and cha-cha contributed much of the dance’s basic steps, but the word “salsa” itself is relatively recent, having been coined by an American record company that specialized in that particular style of music.

Founded in 2011 by choreographer Nadia Joseph ASHA Dance Company seeks to share and explore the art of dance through choreography that brings history,imagination, spirituality and awareness of our everyday life to the surface. Although dance is our main venue for getting these ideas across we also use other avenues such as spoken word and live music to help our viewers understand or at the least be able to connect with us in some way shape or form. We aspire to communicate truth and honesty by reaching out to our local and international community through live performances and online resources. We believe it is our responsibility to enlighten the public, making sure they are aware of the fact that dance is much more than movement.
